GoG is correct. Datieren is not date as in "go out with," but to date as in determine the age of something.

datIEren has nothing to do with dating someone. This is a false friend and is NOT identical to the Denglish "daten," referred to below, which is of course fine. Datieren, according to Duden, Wahrig, dwds.de, and google results, means to determine the age of something, to date something. On the other hand, I suppose Bella could date the age of the vampire she was dating.
U can say both ways:
Bella datet einen Vampir
or
Bella geht mit einem Vampir aus.German to English translation?
