Hey,
So just a quick Q
Differences between Gedachte and Gedenke ?
(in terms of connotations and denotations)
The line, specifically, is
"Das angewandte, gedachte, Satzzeichen ist der Gedanke."
Thanks!German/English translation quip?
gedachte = thought of, remembered, recalled, also commemorated
Gedanke = the thought, the idea, conception, sentiment, notion
Gedenke = rememberance
gedenken = to think of, to commemorateGerman/English translation quip?
der Gedanke = the thought
das Gedachte = that which has been thought
"Das Gedachte" is a very rarely used word, for "thought" you usually use "Gedanke".
Gedachte is a noun formed from the preterite of "think" (hence my translation above):
ich dachte = I thought
In your sentence it actually is more of an adjective. The last comma seems unnecessary.
"Das angewandte, gedachte Satzzeichen ist der Gedanke." = The applied, thought punctuation mark is the thought.
