Another German to English translation please?

What is Gegenst盲ndlichkeiten?



I'm reading this literary article on diaries and the translator didn't translate some key terms or words to English. From what I have been told, in German one can compound words to create a new one, so I bet that's why babel fish isn't doing it. It's hard trying to reconstruct whole lines from the crappy syntactic translation from babel fish and free translations.

it consists of gegen against staendig -standing keiten =-ies /like the ies in deitIES, or surgerIES - its is a plural of -keit /



dutchgirl is right, i messed it up,well somtimes even a human may give wrong results. this time the composite truly does not fit its parts... sorry.

Gegenstand means "Item" "Gegenstaendlichkeiten" is not uses very often in normal german. I found the translation "entity" in the net, and I think it fits.

This word is not really one of these german compounds. It's just a very long word :). It is NOT derived from "gegen = against" but from "Gegenstand = object". So literally this word means "objects", even though it's a very strange word. As far as I know it is normally used in the combination "world of objects" as opposed to the transcendental non-object world.
